Borough of Dumont 2012 Arbor Day Celebration

The Dumont Shade Tree Commission, formed in 2006, is moving into its sixth year of promoting a healthy arboreal environment for the citizens of Dumont. The centerpiece of an exciting and busy 2012 will be the annual Arbor Day celebration. This year we will be honoring the 100th anniversary of the Girl Scouts organization and recognize their great contributions in promoting environmental causes and as friends of the Dumont Shade Tree Commission. The Girl Scouts will participate in the Arbor Day ceremonies at the Dumont Arboretum on West Shore Avenue that will include; Boy Scouts flag ceremony, proclamation by the Mayor, art and poetry contest winners, recognition of the Award of Merit recipient, and the ceremonial planting of a new tree in the arboretum. We will also have a special guest performance of the National Anthem to open the ceremonies, local musician and rock and roll star on the rise Matt DeMarco. Arbor Day also marks the start of the sixth planting season for the Adopt-a-Tree program. Dumont citizens can request a street approved tree for planting in front of their home by simply contacting the Shade Tree Commission at the Borough Hall.
Dumont Arbor Day will be at 1pm April 28 on West Shore Avenue. For information on art contest submissions or to participate in the Adopt-A-Tree program please stop by the Borough Hall or call 201-244-3920
